Job summary

Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team before, during, and after procedures. This role involves setting up the sterile suite, maintaining aseptic technique, positioning patients, and ensuring instrument and sponge counts are correct.

Eligible candidates with a college or technical certificate and CPR certification may receive a sign-on bonus up to $25,000 depending on experience and commitment.

Qualifications

• One year certificate from a college or technical school or 3–6 months related experience.
• Preferred 1–3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
• Certification CST/TS-C within 6 months for hires after 12/29/2020.
• CPR certification (American Heart Association) within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Set up the surgical operating suite with instruments and supplies.
• Use aseptic technique and standard precautions; follow handling policies.
• Assist with patient positioning and draping; participate in the surgical pause.
• Adapt to surgeon preferences and update related materials.
• Count sponges, needles, and instruments.
• Promote cost-effective, efficient patient care environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

2+ years of experience:2-year commitment: $15,0003-year commitment: $25,000

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job performs direct and indirect technical tasks for patients before, during, and after surgical interventions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in setting up the surgical operating suite with appropriate instruments and supplies. (20%)
• Utilizes proper aseptic techniques and practices standard precautions. Follows policy for medication and specimen handling. (20%)
• Assists with preparing, positioning and draping patients and participates in the surgical pause to assure correct patient and surgical site. (20%)
• Understands, anticipates and adapts to surgeon preference and patient care variables, and contributes to updating surgeon preference materials. (20%)
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument count. (10%)
• Cares for and utilizes resources to promote cost effective and efficient environment for patients. (10%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• MinimumOne year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred1-3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.

Additional Employment Requirements:

Surgical Technologist (ST) hired after 12/29/2020 require one of the following:

• Education and Certification: Accredited Surgical Technologist program completion and nationally recognized certification (CST, TS-C) within 6 months of hire. Military programs accepted.
• Pre-existing Employment: Employment as a surgical technologist by this facility before 12/29/2020, or at another facility within the two years prior to 12/29/2020.
• CPR - American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
