Job summary

Highmark Health is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist for Allegheny Health Network in a full-time capacity. The role involves direct and indirect technical tasks for patients around surgical interventions, with a sign-on bonus based on eligibility and experience.

Qualifications

• Requires minimum one year certificate from a college or technical school, or three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred 1-3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
• CPR certification within 60 days of hire as part of employment requirements.

Responsibilities

• Sets up the surgical operating suite with instruments and supplies.
• Follows aseptic techniques and standard precautions; handles medications and specimens per policy.
• Prepares, positions and drapes patients; participates in surgical pause to confirm patient and site.
• Adapts to surgeon preference and patient care variables; helps update surgeon preference materials.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Utilizes resources to promote cost-effective and efficient patient environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• 0-1 years of experience:
  • 2-year commitment: $10,000
  • 3-year commitment: $12,000
• 1-2 years of experience:
  • 2-year commitment: $10,000
  • 3-year commitment: $17,000
• 2+ years of experience:
  • 2-year commitment: $15,000
  • 3-year commitment: $25,000

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job performs direct and indirect technical tasks for patients before, during, and after surgical interventions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in setting up the surgical operating suite with appropriate instruments and supplies. (20%)
• Utilizes proper aseptic techniques and practices standard precautions. Follows policy for medication and specimen handling. (20%)
• Assists with preparing, positioning and draping patients and participates in the surgical pause to assure correct patient and surgical site. (20%)
• Understands, anticipates and adapts to surgeon preference and patient care variables, and contributes to updating surgeon preference materials. (20%)
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument count. (10%)
• Cares for and utilizes resources to promote cost effective and efficient environment for patients. (10%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• MinimumOne year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred1-3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.

Additional Employment Requirements:

• Surgical Technologist (ST) hired after 12/29/2020 require one of the following:
  • Education and Certification: Accredited Surgical Technologist program completion and nationally recognized certification (CST, TS-C) within 6 months of hire. Military programs accepted.
  • Pre-existing Employment: Employment as a surgical technologist by this facility before 12/29/2020, or at another facility within the two years prior to 12/29/2020.
  • CPR - American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
