Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Surgical Technologist for a full-time role supporting the operating room team before, during, and after procedures. You will set up the suite, maintain aseptic technique, and assist with patient positioning and instrument counts to ensure patient safety.

This position requires a certificate or equivalent training, with preference for 1–3 years of surgical tech experience and CST/TS-C certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year certificate or 3–6 months of related training/experience.
• Preferred 1–3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
• Certification in CST or TS-C preferred within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assists in setting up the surgical operating suite with instruments and supplies.
• Uses aseptic technique and standard precautions; handles medications and specimens per policy.
• Prepares, positions and drapes patients; participates in surgical pause to verify patient and site.
• Adapts to surgeon preferences and updates relevant materials as needed.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Cares for resources to promote a cost-effective environment for patients.

0-1 years of experience:2-year commitment: $10,0003-year commitment: $12,000

1-2 years of experience:2-year commitment: $10,0003-year commitment: $17,000

2+ years of experience:2-year commitment: $15,0003-year commitment: $25,000

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job performs direct and indirect technical tasks for patients before, during, and after surgical interventions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in setting up the surgical operating suite with appropriate instruments and supplies. (20%)
• Utilizes proper aseptic techniques and practices standard precautions. Follows policy for medication and specimen handling. (20%)
• Assists with preparing, positioning and draping patients and participates in the surgical pause to assure correct patient and surgical site. (20%)
• Understands, anticipates and adapts to surgeon preference and patient care variables, and contributes to updating surgeon preference materials. (20%)
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument count. (10%)
• Cares for and utilizes resources to promote cost effective and efficient environment for patients. (10%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• MinimumOne year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred1-3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.

Additional Employment Requirements:

Surgical Technologist (ST) hired after 12/29/2020 require one of the following:

• Education and Certification: Accredited Surgical Technologist program completion and nationally recognized certification (CST, TS-C) within 6 months of hire. Military programs accepted.
• Pre-existing Employment: Employment as a surgical technologist by this facility before 12/29/2020, or at another facility within the two years prior to 12/29/2020.
• CPR - American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
