Job summary

Corpus Christi Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Surgical Tech Extern PRN to support operating room readiness and patient care under supervision. You will shadow licensed Surgical Technologists and surgeons, assist with sterile environments, and participate in educational opportunities.

The role emphasizes learning surgical aseptic techniques, instrument handling, and assisting with patient comfort while maintaining safety and privacy, in a PRN capacity at our Corpus Christi

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited surgical technology program, or 6 months post graduation is required.
• Prerequisite coursework in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and medical terminology is required.
• BLS certification (ARC or AHA) required.

Responsibilities

• Shadow and observe licensed Surgical Technologists and surgeons to learn roles and responsibilities.
• Assist in preparing operating rooms, ensuring cleanliness, sterility, and stocking of equipment.
• Transport patients to and from the operating room under supervision of a licensed professional.
• Observe and learn proper surgical aseptic techniques and infection control practices.
• Assist with preparation and handling of surgical instruments and supplies under supervision.
• Provide basic patient care and comfort, answer questions, reassure patients, and maintain privacy.
• Participate in educational opportunities such as workshops and training sessions.

What you will do in this role:

• Shadow and observe licensed Surgical Technologists and surgeons to gain a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
• Assist in preparing operating rooms, ensuring they are clean, sterile, and well-stocked with the necessary equipment and supplies.
• Help with the transportation of patients to and from the operating room under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional.
• Observe and learn proper surgical aseptic techniques and infection control practices.
• Assist with the preparation and handling of surgical instruments and supplies under the direct supervision of a licensed Surgical Technologist.
• Provide basic patient care and comfort, such as answering questions, providing reassurance, and ensuring patient privacy.
• Participate in educational opportunities, such as attending workshops, seminars, or training sessions, as directed by the supervising Surgical Technologist or department manager.
