Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare in Virginia is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the OR team. Under supervision, you will communicate patient status changes and prepare operating rooms with instruments and supplies. You will maintain aseptic technique and assist the surgical team during procedures.

You will also help with room turnover, participate in infection control and quality improvement efforts, and contribute to physician preference card updates as requested.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
• Graduate of OR Technology, Surgical Scrub Tech, or Surgical Technology program, or LPN with OR experience plus 7+ years OR experience.
• Must become a Certified Surgical Technologist within 6 months of hire.
• Registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Technologist required as of Dec 2021.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with care team to form the patient’s plan of care.
• Communicates safe therapeutic care throughout perioperative experience.
• Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies.
• Prepares OR rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
• Follows aseptic technique in opening sterile supplies and setup.
• Drapes patients and assists surgical team during procedures.
• Assists in room turnover between cases.
• Contributes to changes in physician preference cards per surgeon’s request.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
• Participates in infection control and quality improvement programs.
