Job summary

IHA is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support operating room procedures in Grand Rapids, MI. The role involves selecting, organizing, and passing instruments under the surgeon's direction, with emphasis on asepsis and patient safety.

Typical responsibilities include assisting with positioning, prepping, and draping, and coordinating with surgeons and residents throughout procedures. A surgical tech program or significant experience is required, with preferred CST certification.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Surgical Technologist program; or six years of surgical tech experience.
• Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.
• Familiarity with standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation.
• Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.

Responsibilities

• Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique relative to all procedures.
• Applies principles of asepsis and infection prevention.
• Identifies breaches in aseptic technique and implements interventions for resolution.
• Assists with position, prepping and draping of the patient.
• Provides assistance as necessary to surgeons and residents by selecting, organizing, anticipating, and passing surgical instruments, medical supplies, equipment, and provides retraction under the direction of the surgeon.
• Assists with exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging.

Education

Surgical Technologist program or 6 years experience

Certified Surgical Technologist preferred

Computer literacy and software usage

Windows-based systems familiarity
