Job summary

UVA Health Community Health, part of UVA Health, seeks a Surgical Technologist to support safe invasive surgical procedures under supervision of a surgeon and nurse. The role focuses on maintaining sterile technique and proper instrument handling to maximize patient safety.

The position requires completion of a surgical technology program, a high school diploma or GED, and current certification or Virginia board registration.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
• Licensure: Current Surgical Tech Certification required, or if employed prior to July 1, 2021, Virginia Board of Medicine registration.
• Additional Skills/Requirements: Sterile field maintenance, instrument knowledge, reading safety documents, basic medical terminology, and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon and RN to facilitate safe, invasive procedures and ensure a sterile operating room environment.
• Assists with various surgical operations as first assist and ensures proper instrumentation and equipment function.
