Job summary

Atlantic Health in Summit, NJ is seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to support the operating room team. The role involves aseptic technique, instrument setup, draping, and assisting surgeons by anticipating instrument and supply needs throughout surgical procedures.

Responsibilities include maintaining sterility, counting items, labeling medications, and participating in Universal Protocol.

Responsibilities

• Maintains aseptic technique at all times and institute corrective measures in the event of contamination.
• Assists in care, handling and disposition of specimens according to policy.
• Sets up sterile instrument table and prepares supplies according to type of operation. Assists in draping of patient and operative area according to need.
• Maintains organized sterile back table. Follows point of use instrument cleaning standards.
• Maintains a correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments with circulating nurse and reports discrepancies.
• Assists with cleanup in OR as necessary.
• Demonstrates and understands use of all equipment in the patient care areas; communicates malfunctioning equipment.
• Receives and labels solutions and medications on the sterile field and verifies with RN team member.
• Participates in Universal Protocol; Sign in, Time out and sign out per policy.
• Maintains safety measures at all times and reports issues to team.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education and organization mandates.
• Contributes to team efforts and high quality, safe patient outcomes through collaboration with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists.
• Maintains sharps safety measures in handling, transfer and disposal.
• Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety measures and conducts fire risk assessment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Ensures proper functioning of instruments before use.
• Maintains a good professional working relationship with all team members.
• Contributes to maintaining sterile technique during procedures and supports OR team.
