Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist to serve as a dedicated primary scrub for orthopedic surgery. You will support cases at Atrium Health Pineville and Center for Orthopedic Surgery – Rock Hill, prepare instrument sets, and ensure sterility and aseptic technique.

The role requires CST certification, 5 years OR experience, and thorough knowledge of instrumentation. You will manage inventory, coordinate supplies, mentor staff, and participate in quality improvement and training.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years operating room experience as a surgical technologist.
• Current CST certification is required.
• Meets all ST III qualifications of Surgical Tech Ladder.
• Thorough knowledge of surgical instrumentation, procedures, and aseptic technique.

Responsibilities

• Function as a dedicated primary OR scrub for orthopedic surgery.
• Support surgical cases at Atrium Health Pineville and Center for Orthopedic Surgery – Rock Hill.
• Demonstrate expertise in surgical specialty techniques and required resources.
• Prepare instrument sets and instruments for scheduled, add-on, and emergency cases.
• Clean and prepare instruments for decontamination and terminal sterilization.
• Maintain instrument and supply inventory, check par levels, and order supplies.
• Communicate special equipment and instrument needs for the next day's cases.
• Coordinate and prioritize care plans for assigned surgical patients.
• Assist with patient preparation, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and disposition of specimens.
• Monitor sterility of supplies and instrumentation and document charges accurately.
• Monitor and document sterilization activities.
• Participate in performance improvement, education, policy development, and quality control.
• Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and clinical resource.
• Respond to requests for routine or emergency instruments and supplies.
• Attend in-services and staff meetings and follow department policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required or successful completion of military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist
• 5 years of operating room experience in surgical technologist role required
• Current CST certification required
• Meets all ST III qualifications of Surgical Tech Ladder
• Thorough knowledge of surgical instrumentation, procedures, and aseptic technique
• Ability to lift and support 35 pounds
• Ability to work lengthy or irregular hours, rotating shifts, and on hard surfaces
• Ability to distinguish basic colors; depth perception and vision and hearing for distances up to 20 feet
• Ability to use both hands and all fingers for gripping, speed work, and precision
• Ability to communicate and write
