Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Surgical Technician to join the perioperative team in Urbana, IL. You will function under RN supervision, maintain sterile technique, and support obstetrical patient care as needed. Qualifications

Must have surgical technology background and sterile technique knowledge.
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from AHA.
Able to independently scrub basic surgical procedures and assist in procedures.

Responsibilities

Act as integral part of perioperative team under RN supervision.
Apply asepsis to maintain sterile environment.
Coordinate supplies and equipment for operations.
Perform sterilization and documentation of loads.
Assist with patient positioning and room turnover.
Maintain and clean equipment and report repairs.

Job description

Function as an integral part of the perioperative team as first, second, or assisting Surgical Technician under Registered Nurse supervision
Apply asepsis principles to maintain a sterile environment during surgical setup and procedures
Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients according to department policies and procedures
Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment
Maintain a safe environment and follow hospital safety, legal, and departmental requirements
Charge for equipment and supplies
Participate in room turnover and setup
Maintain and clean equipment and identify items needing repair
Perform sterilization and disinfection and document loads
Obtain supplies, equipment, and positioning devices and assist with patient positioning
Perform sterilization of surgical instrumentation and document per policy
Perform scrubbing duties for medical students, residents, and other students
Turn over OR rooms and set up for the next patient efficiently

Requirements

Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology, Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology, or experience in lieu of education
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Ability to independently scrub basic surgical procedures
Ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed
Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology
Basic knowledge of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers
Knowledge and practice of patient care concepts and perioperative teamwork
Knowledge and application of sterile technique during surgical procedures

Core Competencies

Demonstrates expertise in surgical technology, including the application of sterile techniques, patient care concepts, and effective teamwork in the perioperative environment. Proficient in maintaining a sterile environment, organizing surgical supplies, and performing essential scrubbing duties.
