Job summary

Qualifications

  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Willingness to obtain NRP within 18 months of hire.
  • Formal education in sterile processing preferred; must maintain current knowledge of best practices in sterile technique and processing.
  • Previous experience in an operating room or surgical setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy and aseptic technique.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room, instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures
  • Maintain a sterile field and adhere to strict aseptic/sterile technique throughout all cases
  • Perform surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving
  • Set up sterile tables, Mayo stands, and back tables with required instrumentation
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and pass instruments, supplies, and medications as needed
  • Perform accurate counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments with the circulating nurse
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping while maintaining patient dignity and safety
  • Participate in surgical timeout and safety protocols
  • Handle and process tissue specimens appropriately
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and equipment following procedures
  • Assist in room turnover and preparation for subsequent cases
  • Support ultrasound-guided or other procedural needs when applicable
  • Participate in supply inventory management and maintain PAR levels
  • Provide excellent patient-centered care and customer service
  • Maintain accurate documentation and logsPerform other duties as assigned by the Director of Surgical Services or Administration

Description

The Surgical Technologist is an integral member of the surgical team, providing high-quality assistance to surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists during operative procedures. In a Critical Access Hospital setting, this role requires versatility, adaptability, and a strong commitment to patient safety in a resource-limited environment. The Surgical Technologist maintains sterile technique, prepares the operating room, anticipates surgeon needs, and supports efficient surgical care.

Schedule
  • Full-time position with flexible scheduling options
  • Must be able to assume on-call duties with a 15-minute response time to the hospital
  • Participates in regular, emergency, and after-hours surgical cases typical of a Critical Access Hospital
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Willingness to float or assist in other areas as needed in a small facility
  • Commitment to continuing education and maintaining certification
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of patients and equipment (up to 50+ lbs)
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for handling delicate instruments
  • Good vision and hearing to monitor equipment and respond to team needs
