Job summary

Missouri Baptist Medical Center, part of BJC HealthCare, seeks a Surgical Technician to support the OR team in St. Louis County.

This role performs surgical duties under RN supervision, handling room prep, sterile technique, and specimen handling as part of a high-volume surgical services department. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, and typically less than two years of related experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• <2 years or military equivalent experience.
• Accred Surgical Program preferred.
• Surgical Technician Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews preference cards to determine surgeon needs, obtains supplies and equipment, ensures room cleanliness, assists with opening sterile supplies.
• Performs surgical scrub duties, and assists with collection, identification, and disposition of cultures and specimens.
• Assists in turning over of room, and ensures supplies, instruments, and equipment are returned to proper location.

Overview

Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24-hour adult emergency department and cares for pediatric patients at a separate emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Missouri Baptist Medical Center's Surgical Services department consists of 22 ORs which include three heart team rooms and the da Vinci robotic surgical system.

Role Purpose

Performs surgical duties for operating room procedures under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
