Job summary

Missouri Baptist Medical Center, part of BJC HealthCare, is seeking a Surgical Technician to join the Surgical Services team in St. Louis County. You will assist with operating room preparation, surgical scrub duties, and post-procedure turnover under RN supervision.

The schedule is Monday to Friday, 6:30am-7:00pm, with 3/12's shifts and occasional weeknight and weekend calls. Minimum requirements include a High School diploma or GED; less than 2 years of experience or military equivalent;

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews preference cards to determine surgeon needs, obtains supplies and equipment, ensures cleanliness, assists with sterile supplies

• Assists in turnover of room and returns supplies and equipment to proper location

Overview

Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24-hour adult emergency department and cares for pediatric patients at a separate emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Performs surgical duties for operating room procedures under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews preference cards to determine surgeon needs, obtains the necessary supplies and equipment for the procedure, ensures cleanliness of room, and assists with opening sterile supplies.
• Performs surgical scrub duties, and assists with the collection, identification, and disposition of cultures and specimens.
• Assists in turning over of room, and ensures supplies, instruments, and equipment are returned to proper location.
