Job summary

The Surgical Technician at CHKD Medical Group in Virginia Beach supports the RN and surgeon during operative procedures, assisting with cases of varying complexity and ensuring sterile technique. The role may require flexible shifts and on-call duties to meet 24/7 operations, reporting to the Operating Room Manager.

Responsibilities include arranging sterile setup, assisting with patient movement, and maintaining a safe environment under RN supervision.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology, operating room technology or a school of practical nursing or equivalent program.
• Basic arithmetic knowledge to maintain charges records (high school level).
• Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with surgical team and hospital staff.
• Familiarity with surgical instruments, supplies and procedures; manual dexterity.

Responsibilities

• Arranges and inventories sterile setup utilizing asepsis and sterilization techniques.
• Assists in preparing and moving of patients, cleaning and room set up.
• Provides a safe and efficient environment for the surgical patient under the direction of the registered nurse within a defined scope of practice.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
