Job summary

USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital is seeking a Surgical Tech I to support the surgical team under supervision. You will scrub in, prepare instruments, and maintain aseptic technique, ensuring patient safety and smooth operative flow.

The role requires a high school diploma, a CAAHEP-accredited program, and at least 1 year of experience or a paid internship with USC Keck. English proficiency and teamwork with clinicians are essential.

Qualifications

• High School or equivalent required.
• CAAHEP accredited Surgical Technician Program required.
• 1 year experience as Surgical Technician or intern required.
• Surgical Technician intern experience must be paid and completed at Keck Medicine of USC.
• Active practice as a Surgical Technician within the last six months.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrates ability to work with physicians, staff, and patients.

Responsibilities

• Performs operative room scrub responsibilities in all procedures.
• Adheres to safety standards and policies (Title 22, JCAHO) while performing duties.
• Applies aseptic technique and corrects breaks promptly.
• Anticipates needs of the surgical team and responds during emergencies.
• Maintains communication with circulating nurse about patient status and surgery progress.
• Prepares and inventories sterile set-ups for operations.
• Performs scrub role and passes instruments during procedures.
• Prepares, cleans, and maintains instruments and equipment per guidelines.
• Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens.
• Prepares operating room for various cases and procedures.
• Preceptor role in training students.
• Participates in evaluating and acquiring surgical equipment and supplies.
• Suggests and participates in process-improvement projects.
