Job summary

Island Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to join the Surgical Services Team. The role focuses on assisting surgeons during procedures, preparing the operating room, and ensuring sterility and readiness for each case.

Applicants should have a Surgical Technician Certificate, WA registration, and BLS. The position requires on-site work in Washington with a commitment to patient care and team collaboration.

Qualifications

• Surgical Technician Certificate from an accredited college, technical school, or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 months training, experience, or combination of education and experience.
• Current Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification.
• Demonstrates competence in care of specimens and accurately handles specimens at all times.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient explanations and reassurance as needed.
• Adapt procedures to meet patient needs across ages.
• Prepare rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for each procedure.
• Assist in positioning, prepping, and draping patients for surgery.
• Anticipate surgeon needs during intraoperative phase and assist with instruments and dressings.
• Maintain accurate instrument counts and report discrepancies.
• Perform sterile technique and aseptic setup for procedures.
• Scrub for procedures and ensure timely setup and turnover.
• Maintain instrument tables and restock supplies for end-of-case cleanup.
• Care for instruments and equipment during intra/postoperative phases and monitor sterilization procedures.
