Job summary

Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD, is hiring a Surgical Technologist to provide high-quality professional care under the supervision of the Surgery Leader or Surgeon. The role focuses on sterile technique and intraoperative support within surgical suites and related areas.

Responsibilities include assisting surgeons, maintaining sterile conditions, updating preference cards, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Technical certificate from an accredited surgical technologist program.
• Certification as CST or TS-C upon hire; NBSTSA/NCCT credentials preferred.
• Visual acuity and ability to communicate effectively in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Assists surgeon within scope of competency; follows infection control standards.
• Washes and sterilizes equipment; maintains clean operating room.
• Rotates in SPD area to clean and sterilize instruments for OR, ER, clinics.
• Updates preference cards for procedures; verifies patient identity and procedure.
• Implements aseptic technique throughout intraoperative period.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts per policy.
• Evaluates new supplies and equipment; arranges instruments per instructions.
