Job summary

Avera St Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, SD is seeking a Surgical Technologist to provide high-quality perioperative support under the supervision of the Surgery Leader and/or Surgeon. The role operates within the surgical suites and clinical areas to ensure patient safety and efficient procedures.

Responsibilities include assisting the surgeon, sterilizing instruments, updating preference cards, maintaining sterile technique, and verifying patient and procedure details.

Qualifications

• Technical Certificate from an Accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
• CST certification from NBSTSA Upon Hire.
• TS-C certification from NCCT Upon Hire.

Responsibilities

• Assists surgeon within scope of competency and standards of practice; maintains sterile field.
• Rotates in SPD area; cleans and sterilizes instruments for OR, floors, ER, and clinics.
• Updates preference cards to ensure team can perform procedures as per surgeon requests.
• Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards.
• Verifies patient identity, operative procedure, site, surgeon, and consent.
• Maintains aseptic technique throughout intraoperative period.
• Performs sponge, needle and instrument counts per policy.
• Participates in evaluating new supplies, equipment, and instruments.
• Places equipment and arranges instruments in operating room.

Technical Certificate in Surgical Technology (Accredited)

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - NBSTSA

Tech in Surgery (TS-C) - NCCT
