Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CST certification or completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology is required.
• BLS through AHA or ARC is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the RN circulator with preparing the operating room for the arrival of the patient.
• Select, inspect, and open surgical supplies and equipment as per physician's preference list.
• Perform a surgical hand scrub and gown self and others.
• Create and maintain a sterile field with essential supplies for the procedure.
• Ensure patient safety by checking equipment prior to surgery.
• Count sponges, sharps, and instruments with the RN circulator at designated intervals.
• Pass instruments and anticipate the surgeon's needs during the procedure.
• Prepare instruments for terminal sterilization and assist with turnover.
• Organize preoperative tasks and demonstrate competency with instruments and equipment.
• Serve as a resource and preceptor to nursing staff rotating through the service.
• Complete performance evaluations in a timely manner.
• Problem-solve counts, patient care, equipment, and environment issues before management intervention.
• Support team development and maintain a collaborative environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
