Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare is seeking an Operating Room Surgical Technician (Uncertified) in Herrin. The role supports the OR team by preparing the patient and room for surgical procedures, handling instruments, and assisting the surgeon throughout operations.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, OR technician program or on-the-job training, BLS, and the ability to be non-certified or certified with NBSTSA/NCCT. Experience with sterile technique and instrument handling is essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduate of an OR technician program or equivalent on-the-job training is acceptable.
• Certified Surgical Technologist exam is required for certification.
• BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room and patient for procedures.
• Assembles and dismantles tables and instruments before and after procedures.
• Prepares patient and room for planned surgeries and opens sterile supplies.
• Gowns and gloving assistance to the surgeon and passes instruments.
• Maintains instrument, suture, and sponge counts.
• Applies dressings and assists with specimen handling.
• Decontaminates instruments and maintains supplies per policy.
• Aids in turnover of the OR for next cases and restocks supplies.
