Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Non-Certified: OR technician program graduate or on-the-job training; military experience as technician/LPN; dental/ophthalmology/medical assistants may qualify.
• Certified: NBSTSA or NCCT certification required to be considered.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in transportation and positioning of patients.
• Assists in assembling and dismantling of tables and instruments before and after procedures.
• Prepares patient and room for planned surgical procedures.
• Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
• Completes skin preparation and draping.
• Assists Surgeon with gowning and gloving and passes instruments and sutures.
• Maintains correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges.
• Applies dressings and bandages as needed.
• Aids in specimen collection and handling.
• Decontaminates instruments and supplies per policy.
• Aids in efficient turnover of the operating room for next cases.
• Monitors and restocks supplies.
