Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Non-Certified: on-the-job training acceptable; military experience as technician or LPN; dental assistant; ophthalmologist technician; medical assistant evidence of training required.
• Certified: NBSTSA or NCCT certification.
• BLS certificate required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in transportation and positioning of patients.
• Assists in assembling and dismantling of tables and instruments before and after procedure.
• Prepares patient and room for planned surgical procedures.
• Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
• Completes skin prep and draping.
• Assist Surgeon with gowning and gloving.
• Passes instruments and sutures to surgeon.
• Maintains correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges.
• Applies dressings and bandages.
• Assists with specimens handling.
• Decontaminates instruments and supplies per policy.
• Aids in efficient turnover of the operating room.
