Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare is hiring an operating room technician to prepare the OR and patient for procedures. The role involves assisting surgeons, maintaining sterile fields, and supporting efficient OR turnover in a hospital setting.

Required is a high school diploma or equivalent with on-the-job training or ARC/STSA-approved program; NBSTSA/NCCT certification is preferred; Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• On-the-job training or ARC/STSA-approved program acceptable.
• NBSTSA or NCCT certification preferred; BLS may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in transporting and positioning patients for procedures.
• Assembles and dismantles operating room tables and instruments.
• Prepares patient and room for planned surgical procedures.
• Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
• Performs skin prep and draping.
• Assists Surgeon with gowning and gloving.
• Passes instruments and sutures to Surgeon.
• Maintains correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges.
• Applies dressings and bandages as needed.
• Cares for specimens and supports specimen handling.
• Decontaminates instruments and supplies per policy.
• Aids in turnover of the OR for next cases.
• Monitors and restocks OR supplies.
