Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare in Herrin, IL is seeking a Surgical Technician to prepare the operating room and patient for procedures. You will assist in positioning patients, assembling and dismantling tables and instruments, and ensuring sterile setup.

The role supports the surgeon by passing instruments, maintaining counts, and assisting with gowning/gloving. You may help with specimen handling, room turnover, and stock monitoring in a fast-paced OR environment.

Qualifications

• 6 months of experience or equivalent training for non-certified personnel
• Proven ability to assist in operating room setup and turnover

Responsibilities

• Assists in transportation and positioning of patients
• Assembles and dismantles operating tables and instruments
• Prepares patient and room for planned procedures
• Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures
• Completes skin prep and draping
• Assists Surgeon with gowning and gloving
• Passes instruments and sutures to surgeon
• Maintains instrument, suture, and sponge counts
• Applies dressings and bandages as needed
• Collects and handles specimens
• Decontaminates instruments and prepares supplies
• Aids in turnover of the operating room for next cases
• Monitors and restocks supplies
