St. Joseph's Health is offering a Surgical Technologist Assistant internship designed to increase program participation and recruit future Surgical Technologists. The internship provides real-time perioperative exposure and begins with prerequisite fulfillment.

During the internship, you will learn instrument handling, CDS case carts, and work under CST/RN supervision with potential hire as a Surgical Technologist at St. Joseph’s Health.

Qualifications

• Be a current Surgical Technology student in good standing and making progress toward completion of program (>10 months prerequisites complete per program director).
• Initiation of the internship requires an application to St. Joseph’s Health and a letter of recommendation from the Surgical Technology program director, clinical instructor, or the St. Joseph’s Health OR Department Educator stating good standing in an accredited program.
• Satisfactory program attendance is to be maintained to ensure continuance of internship.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical and clinical support to the perioperative team as the primary scrub, handling instrumentation and supplies.
• Anticipates the surgeon and procedural needs during operations.
• Learn CDS, case cart processes, and how to locate sterile items in the CDS and cores.
• Under direct supervision, observe and participate in opening ORs and intraoperative activities.
• Perform surgical scrub, gown and glove, and basic setup of the back table and instruments.
