Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technician to support perioperative teams across pre-procedure, procedure, and post-procedure activities. You will assist with OR setup, instrument handling, and post-procedure duties under RN direction.

Responsibilities include maintaining sterile fields, assisting surgeons, and ensuring proper processing of implants and equipment. Technical certification is required with NBSTSA CST preferred upon hire.

Qualifications

• Technical Certificate completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program.
• Certified Surgical Tech (CST) NBSTSA Upon Hire.
• Less than 1 year experience as a Surgical Technician.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the Operating Room for surgical procedures in a timely fashion, organizing equipment and instruments.
• Assists the surgeon as the first or second scrub person and maintains a sterile field.
• Assists the circulating nurse to account for all instruments, needles, and sponges.
• Operates OR machinery and equipment used on the sterile field and verifies implants.
• Assists with on-the-job training and orientation of new staff and students.
• Performs decontamination, assembly and sterilization per QA guidelines and annual competency.

Education
