Job summary

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a skilled Surgical Tech II to support OR services at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital and other perioperative areas in Nashville. The role involves preparing and maintaining sterile fields, assisting surgeons, and ensuring patient safety across thoracic, neuro, orthopedics, and transplant teams.

Active NBSTSA or NCCT certification is required. Eligible candidates have at least one year of experience and must be able to work night or

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved surgical discipline program or completion of a surgical technologist training program during military service.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience.
• Certification from NBSTSA CST or NCCT TS-C required, unless graduate of armed forces training program.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates patient care by assisting the surgeon before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Plans, sets up, performs and cleans up the assigned surgical procedure as circulator and scrub tech.
• Performs sharp, sponge and instrument counts according to policy.
• Demonstrates knowledge of asepsis principles in creating and maintaining the sterile field.
• Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
