Job summary

Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, Houston, seeks a Surgical Tech to prepare the operating room and assist the surgical team. You will set up instruments, maintain a sterile field, and support complex procedures to help patient healing. Adaptability and a strong team mindset are essential in this role.

You will scrub with the team, pass instruments, and assist with retracting and suctioning as needed, while following aseptic standards and policy to ensure patient safety and successful outcomes.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED with at least two years of surgical experience.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) upon hire.
• Technologist in Surgery-Certified upon hire and CPR/BLS within 14 days.

Responsibilities

• Assists surgical team in the scrubbing role according to standards and licensure.
• Maintains sterile field and reports breaks in aseptic technique immediately.
• Passes instruments, suture products, medication, and sponge materials to the surgeon.
• Assists with retracting tissue and organs and suctioning as directed by the surgeon.
• Electrosurgical current may be applied as directed by the surgeon.
• Performs surgical counts with the RN according to policy and procedure.
