Job summary

CHS Career Site is seeking a Surgical Technician First Assist to support surgeons during procedures, maintain a sterile field, and provide instruments and supplies as needed.

Responsibilities include assisting with exposure, tissue handling, hemostasis, wound closure, and post-procedure turnover while upholding infection control standards and patient safety in a fast-paced OR setting.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in surgical techniques and aseptic principles.
• Strong knowledge of surgical anatomy and instrumentation.
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and respond quickly to intraoperative changes.
• Attention to detail in sterile field maintenance and surgical counting procedures.
• Effective communication and teamwork with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a scrub person during surgical procedures, maintaining sterile supplies and providing instruments to the team.
• Performs first assistant duties including exposure, suctioning, and tissue handling as directed by the surgeon.
• Handles and dissects tissues, clamps blood vessels, controls bleeding, and places drains as instructed.
• Assists with wound closure, including suturing and dressing per surgeon instructions.
• Ensures sterility and safety, conducts counting procedures, and follows infection control protocols.
