Job summary

The Surgical Technician First Assist at CHS Career Site provides direct support to surgeons during procedures, maintaining sterile fields and supplying instruments to ensure efficient operations. This role requires advanced technical skills in positioning, retracting tissues, controlling bleeding, suturing, and wound protection.

You will collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and the OR team, adhere to infection control standards, and participate in post-operative turnover while maintaining

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience as a Surgical Technician or First Assist in an acute care setting.
• CST - Certified Surgical Technologist required or CSFA/CSA certifications required
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) required; ACLS preferred

Responsibilities

• Scrub person during procedures, organize sterile supplies and instruments.
• Provide first assistant duties: exposure, instrument handling, retractors, suction, sponging.
• Dissect tissues, clamp vessels, control bleeding, place drains as directed.
• Assist wound closure and dressings per surgeon instructions.
• Maintain sterility and safety, perform accurate counting with RN circulator, follow infection control protocols.
• Prepare and transport instruments for decontamination and sterilization.
• Assist in post-procedure room turnover and ensure areas are clean for next surgeries.
• Maintain regular attendance and comply with policies.
