Job summary

Mercy Health in Lorain, OH is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech First Assist to support surgeons and nurses in the operating room. The role prepares the OR, assembles supplies, maintains aseptic technique and assists with invasive procedures.

The position requires CST or NBSTA/TS-C/NCCT certification and at least one year of surgical tech experience. Proficiency in instrument handling, sterile processing, and operating room teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree, Vocational Certification, or Military Certificate in Surgical Technology is required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NBSTA/TS-C/NCCT certification is required.
• One year of experience as a Surgical Technologist is required.
• BLS certification preferred upon hire and must be obtained prior to direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Scrub person during operative procedures; assemble supplies and equipment.
• Prepare sterile supplies and instruments; perform surgical counts with RN.
• Maintain sterile field and assist with instrument delivery during procedures.
• Retrieve and label specimens; report implanted devices and drains.
• Assist with pre- and post-procedure room cleaning and equipment setup.
• Participate in ongoing education, competency verification and safety measures.
