Job summary

Lake Health District is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech (CST) for a part-time role, primarily daytime shifts with flexibility for the surgical schedule. The CST supports surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses before, during, and after procedures, handling instruments and ensuring a sterile field.

Responsibilities include sterile processing, instrument preparation, and maintaining supplies across the OR, sterile processing, and procedure rooms.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • National Surgical Technologist certification required. Current CPR certification required.
  • Previous Surgical Scrub experience in general surgery, OBGYN, c-sections, endoscopy and orthopedics.
  • Knowledge of asepsis, sterile technique, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing the sterile field and provide instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team.
  • Maintain sterility and assist with instrument counts and sterile processing.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, CRNAs and RNs to support patient care before, during, and after surgery.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are organized, in working order, and properly stored.

Position Summary

The Certified Surgical Tech (CST) is a member of the surgical team. The tech works with surgeons, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, and Registered Nurses delivering patient care before, during, and after surgery. The CST provides the team with instruments, supplies, and equipment as necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she anticipates the needs of the surgeon(s) and has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure. The CST has an understanding of the procedures being performed, anticipates the surgeon's needs, and is constantly vigilant in maintaining the sterile field. The CST is also responsible for sterile processing instruments from various areas of the Hospital and Clinics and maintains appropriate levels of these instruments throughout the facility.

The CST is a member of the Code Trauma Team and as such will be called in for codes and traumas.

The CST is responsible for maintaining supplies, checking expiration dates and overall organization in Sterile Processing, Operating Rooms, Procedure Room, as well as assuring equipment in each area is in proper working condition.

Requirements
Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure / Certification / Registration

National Surgical Technologist certification required. Current CPR certification required.

Experience

Previous Surgical Scrub experience required with experience in general surgery, OBGYN cases, c-sections, endoscopy and orthopedics.

Skills

Demonstrated working knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and Sterile Processing organization. Demonstrates principles of asepsis and sterile technique. Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

  • Successful completion of 500-hour probationary period.
  • Criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen required upon conditional job offer.
