Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited school of surgical technology or the equivalent.
• 1–3 years previous surgery experience in at least two specialty areas preferred.
• BLS certification through an accredited program; Certified Surgical Technician preferred.
• Effective communication skills; both orally and written.
• Computer skills needed.
• Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
• Strong critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs scrub activities based on aseptic technique and safety guidelines, assisting surgeon and RN as needed.
• Prepares and uses surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
• Operates and reports equipment malfunctions.
• Maintains sterile field for adolescent to geriatric patients during intra-operative experiences.
• Follows hospital policies and confidentiality guidelines and maintains patient privacy.
