Job summary

Good Samaritan Medical Center in Florida is seeking a Surgical Technician for per diem evening shifts. The role involves assisting in the OR under RN supervision, scrubbing and passing instruments, stocking supplies, and maintaining aseptic technique throughout procedures.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, completion of a Surgical Technologist program or on-the-job training, and preferred BLS certification.

Job Summary

Per Diem, Evenings

Surgical Technician assists with the nursing care of the patients in the OR by performing routine and delegated duties according to the standards of practice and policy and procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse at all times. Serves as a scrub nurse, but not independently as a circulating nurse. Other duties include stocking, replenishing, preparing, and/or selecting supplies and equipment for storage or use during surgical procedures. Assists with housekeeping functions to maintain cleanliness in the OR. Activities are directed toward achieving desired patient outcomes. Demonstrates the ability to interpret information to identify the patient’s age specific needs and provides appropriate care for the age group in question. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment, instrumentation and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases; scrubbing and passing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures; pulling cases as needed, breaking down cases at the end of the procedure, sets up operating room and supplies needed for day/following day’s schedule. Available for call on an assigned scheduled basis as required by unit need. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Education
- High school graduate or GED
- Graduate of a Surgical Technologist program or equivalent, or On The Job Training

Licensure/Certifications
- Basic Life Support Certification in the field preferred

Minimum Experience
- Clinical experience of at least one year, or graduate of Surgical tech. Program.
