Job description

Starting Pay - $19.75/hour

Position Overview

The SST I performs and facilitates the setup and breakdown of OR surgical rooms at a novice level. Responsibilities include:

1. Sorting and disposing of contaminated materials per hospital guidelines.
2. Transporting patients to and from surgery, providing comfort and reporting concerns as needed (Main O.R. Only).
3. Demonstrating infection control principles and aseptic techniques.
4. Understanding the normal growth and development of pediatric, adolescent, adult populations, and the aging process of the elderly.
5. Working cooperatively with the surgical team.
6. Competency in advanced level case assignments and equipment.
7. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
8. Knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and supplies.
9. Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
10. Critical thinking, independence, basic math skills, multitasking, pressure management, problem-solving, organization, attention to detail, and accurate recall of information.

Additional Responsibilities

• Ensuring the readiness of assigned rooms, including equipment and orientation (both non-patient care and patient safety duties).
• Maintaining cleanliness and disinfection of surfaces and equipment in the OR.
• Handling hospital waste according to OSHA guidelines.
• Keeping the work area clean and stocked.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Compensation Range

$17.65 - $27.36 per hour

Minimum Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: 0 years (1 year preferred).
• Licensure: BLS within 2 months of hire; CNA or EMT preferred.

Physical Demands

Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills; ability to lift/push/pull 25-50 lbs; work environment includes fumes, chemicals, vibrations, heat, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
