Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Surgical Services Support Technician to assist with patient care and streamline case flow under direct RN supervision. You will support staff, maintain a safe environment, and help with instrument setup and transportation of specimens.

Responsibilities include effective communication, adherence to safety policies, and ongoing learning to improve performance. High school diploma or healthcare training with clinical rotations is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year of experience, preferably within a customer service or healthcare role.
• Enrollment in any healthcare training program that requires clinical rotations with at least 1 clinical rotation completed.

Responsibilities

• Establish effective communication strategies.
• Support change within the department/organization.
• Perform patient care skills under RN supervision in a safe manner.
• Receive feedback constructively and follow directions.
• Identify learning needs to their preceptor.
• Be aware of impact of behavior on department efficiency.
• Seek nursing/physician or other health care team intervention when needed.
• Pursue knowledge and skill development based on feedback or needs.
• Maintain patient safety and recover by keeping areas clean, organizing rooms, cleaning equipment, and managing linens.
• Assist with patient positioning under RN supervision.
• Transport specimens to the lab.
• Open supplies and equipment to establish a sterile field.
• Care for and maintain specialty equipment (lasers, video towers, microscopes, positioning aids).
• Assist with setting up and ordering instrument trays; check SPD for broken items.
• Communicate with anesthesia and OR staff to prioritize assignments at shift start.
• Move patients on/off beds in the OR suite.
• Perform assigned work timely and productively.
• Follow all patient care and hospital information policies and safety procedures.
• Report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department.
• Identify need for patient/family education.
