Job summary

Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley, CA is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) in Surgery Services. The RNFA collaborates with the surgeon during the intra-operative phase and may serve as Circulator or Scrub when not assigned.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, current RNFA and OR certifications, BLS/ACLS, and on-call availability. Strong leadership and critical thinking are valued for patient safety and standards adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required.
• One year of RNFA experience is preferred; or completion of an RNFA training program with preceptorship.
• Computer, internet, order entry and word processing experience is preferred.
• Ability to fulfill the on-call requirement of the department.
• Current BLS & ACLS from AHA required.
• Current Nurse Operating Room Certification required.
• Current RNFA certification required.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process and AORN standards as a framework for the management of patient care.
• Demonstrates leadership and serves as a link between the surgical suite and the rest of the hospital to provide continuity of care during the intra-operative phase.
• Delegates to licensed and unlicensed personnel
• Demonstrates the ability to utilize effective critical thinking skills.
• Prioritizes essential functions to focus on the needs of the surgical patient.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system and applies principles to patient documentation.
• Contributes to an effective and safe working environment.
• Advocates for the sedated or anesthetized surgical patient.
• Serves as a role model and mentors new staff members.
