Job summary

IU Health Methodist in downtown Indianapolis, a Level 1 Trauma center, seeks Surgical Resource Technologists to support pre, intra, and post‑operative care. You will ensure proper setup of instruments, supplies and equipment and assist the surgeon and OR team during procedures.

This day‑shift role is on‑call and includes holiday coverage. Candidates must have a High School Diploma, NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist, BLS, 17 CEUs annually, and at least one year of experience in the skilled

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • 17 continuing education units annually required.
  • Completion of Perioperative Services Preceptor class and/or related training required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Skilled Technologist or relevant role.
  • Must know the names and functions of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Adherence to sterile field policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and arrange surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the OR for each procedure.
  • Assist the surgeon and OR team during operations as allowed by standards.
  • Support turnover of the OR and processing of specimens, equipment and supplies.

Job description

IU Health Methodist proudly anchors downtown Indianapolis as a Level 1 Trauma facility, featuring 29 state‑of‑the‑art Operating suites. Our expertise spans diverse specialties, including Trauma, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, Vascular, Neurology, and General Surgery. From tackling complex cases to addressing the challenges of Trauma injuries, we provide critical care for high acuity patients across various clinical specialties.

This position is a day shift role. On‑call and Holiday required.

Surgical Resource Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

  • Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA.
  • Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Requires 17 continuing education units annually.
  • Requires successful completion of Perioperative Services Preceptor class and/or completion of 4 precepting eLMS modules and/or facility based preceptor training.
  • Requires a minimum of 1 year experience in the Skilled Technologist role or relevant experience.
  • Must be able to resource to other staff who are utilizing advanced technology in cases, including knowledge of the types of instruments utilized, what cases utilize different technologies, etc.
  • Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
  • Requires completion of application and recommendations as prescribed in Advancement Process.
