Job summary

NAMSA in Minnesota seeks a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or ALAT to support post-operative recovery, anesthesia, and surgical preparation for study animals. You will monitor vital signs, administer medications, perform anesthetic calculations, intubation, catheter placement, and document clinical data.

The role requires lifting up to 75 pounds, working in a BSL-2 environment, and operating equipment like gas anesthesia machines and autoclaves.

Qualifications

• CVT or ALAT certification preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline or Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology required.

Responsibilities

• Monitors animals during initial post-operative recovery (TPR, auscultation, pain assessment, wound dressings, meds).
• Prepares animals for surgery (anesthetic calculations, sedation/induction, intubation, IV catheter placement, monitoring).
• Performs and documents physiological data during prep and recovery; document medication administration.
• Dispenses medications as prescribed by veterinarian or protocol.
• Collects lab samples (blood, fecal, urine) and processes them as needed.
• Communicates with veterinary staff and study directors about medical status and recovery.
