Job summary
UAB Medicine is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to provide anatomic pathology services under the supervision of a pathologist. The role involves gross examination, tissue prosection, and intraoperative consultation support in a high-volume laboratory setting.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or related field with NAACLS Pathologists' Assistant program, and PA(ASCP) certification or eligibility within 24 months.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Allied Health Science or a related field and graduation from an NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program required.
- For students pursuing completion of an NAACLS Pathologists' Assistant program, a Bachelor's degree and completion of Pathologists' Assistant program within five months from date of hire required.
- Current PA(ASCP) certification or eligibility to sit exam for certification within 24 months from date of hire required.
Responsibilities
- Provide anatomic pathology services under the direction of a pathologist.
- Interact with pathologists in the same manner as physician assistants under physician supervision.
- Perform gross examination and tissue prosection of specimens to aid diagnosis.
- Assist the pathologist with intraoperative consultations.
