Job summary
HNL Lab Medicine in Allentown, PA is seeking a pathologist's assistant/gross room assistant to perform gross dictation for non-complex surgical cases. Responsibilities include tissue preparation for microscopic examination and gross description of specimens, with accurate accessioning in the LIS.
The role requires the ability to work independently and follow directions from the Lead PA and Pathologist. Education includes an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory
Qualifications
- Must have an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, or 60 semester hours with specific science/maths coursework and ABHES/NAACLA clinical training
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical material, and to respond to inquiries from regulators or customers
- Math skills include probability, statistics, geometry, and ratios for practical use
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems and basic computer tools
Responsibilities
- Assist in gross preparation of non-complex surgical examinations
- Select and prepare tissue for microscopic examination for permanent sections
- Perform gross description of non-complex surgical specimens
- Ensure correct accessioning and numbering of specimens in the LIS
- Support special projects designated by supervisors and lead pathologists
