Job summary

Kids for the Future in Joplin, MO seeks a part-time Grossing Technician to perform all technical aspects of receiving, accessioning, dissecting and dictating surgical specimens within competency. You will ensure quality, consistency, and efficiency of specimens from surgical cases, with attention to proper labeling and LIS documentation.

The role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to work across tissue processing, pathology reception, and frozen section procedures.

Qualifications

• 60 semester hours or equivalent with at least 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses.
• 24 semester hours of science including 6 hours chemistry, 6 hours biology, and 12 hours in chemistry/biology/medical terminology.
• Clinical laboratory training program approved by ABHES/NAACLS or equivalent; or at least three months of high-complexity testing training.

Responsibilities

• Assure appropriate specimen accessioning.
• Assure specimen collection and submission.
• Assure proper specimen handling and fixation prior to processing.
• Resolve specimen issues by contacting hospital or physician offices for clarification.
• Evaluate clinical information to determine proper specimen sampling.
• Perform all technical aspects of grossing and dictating surgical specimens including description and sectioning for processing.
