Job summary

Advocate Condell Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Assistant to function as first or second assistant in the operating room, supporting complex and basic procedures. The role requires OR experience, CPR certification, and certification as Surgical Assistant within 30 days of hire.

Weekend, night and holiday on-call are required, with 7:00-1530 shifts and a 40-hour week. Respondents must handle exposure to body fluids, chemicals, radiation and anesthetic gases, work in high-stress

Qualifications

Certification as Surgical Assistant is required.
CPR certification is required.
Certification as Surgical Assistant within 30 days of hire.
Must be willing to work with exposures to body fluids, waste and chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, anesthesia gases and life threatening diseases.
On-call availability including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

Provide first or second assisting for surgical procedures for patients of all ages.
Prepare supplies and room, assist with lifting and positioning.
Anticipates surgeon needs and ensures supplies are available.
Maintain sterile OR environment using aseptic techniques.
Ensure equipment and supplies are functional for OR.
Assist in training Surgical Technologists and new Surgical Assistants.
