Job summary

MedStar Health's MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Surgical Oncology team in Washington, DC. This full-time ambulatory role focuses on pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing complex oncologic surgery.

The Advanced Practice Provider will collaborate with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams in outpatient and inpatient settings, coordinating care, educating patients, and ensuring thorough follow-up.

Qualifications

• Completion and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• CPR certification required.
• Eligible for Maryland and DC licenses.
• Oncology experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre-operative assessments, post-operative follow-ups, patient education, and routine post-discharge care in the outpatient setting
• Assist in inpatient consultations and support timely, coordinated discharges
• Participate in daily patient review rounds and contribute to weekly multidisciplinary tumor board and care huddles
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR
• Serve as a liaison between surgeons, referring physicians, inpatient teams, and outpatient specialty services
• Help optimize care pathways for patients undergoing complex surgeries involving hepatobiliary, colorectal, breast, and soft tissue malignancies
