Job summary

MedStar Washington Hospital Center seeks a Physician Assistant to join the Surgical Oncology team. This full-time ambulatory position focuses on pre-operative and post-operative management for complex oncologic cases, collaborating with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

The APP will assist in consultations, rounds, and care coordination, with emphasis on education, longitudinal follow-up, and EMR documentation (Cerner).

Qualifications

• Completion and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program
• CPR certification
• Eligible for Maryland and DC licenses

Responsibilities

• Provide pre-operative assessments, post-operative follow-ups, patient education, and routine post-discharge care in the outpatient setting
• Assist in inpatient consultations and support timely, coordinated discharges
• Participate in daily patient review rounds and contribute to weekly multidisciplinary tumor board and care huddles
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR (Cerner)
• Serve as a liaison between surgeons, referring physicians, inpatient teams, and outpatient specialty services
• Help optimize care pathways for patients undergoing complex surgeries involving hepatobiliary, colorectal, breast, and soft tissue malignancies
