Job summary

Hilo-based Health Unit Coordinator I at Hawaii Health Systems Corporation - East Hawaii Region provides critical communication and administrative support in the Surgical Unit and Pediatric services. The role ensures smooth patient flow and collaboration among patients, families, nurses, physicians, and support departments.

You will prioritize tasks, manage charts and EMR documentation, and participate in staffing coordination and emergency response activities to maintain high-quality patient

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; substitution with an Associates or Bachelor's degree allowed.
• Experience: Two years of clerical or administrative experience with office procedures, communications and recordkeeping.
• Knowledge & Skills: Medical terminology familiarity; EMR systems; strong organizational, communication and customer service skills; ability to prioritize tasks in fast-paced environments; proficiency with standard office software.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, discharges and other unit activities with accurate documentation.
• Maintain patient charts, unit logs and electronic medical records; act as communication hub for nursing staff and providers.
• Support staffing and scheduling by assisting with coordination, notifications and attendance functions.
• Monitor supplies, maintain inventory, prepare reports, and assist with regulatory compliance and emergency response.
