Job summary

Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Edinburg, TX seeks a Certified Surgical First Assistant to support the surgeon and OR team across pediatric and adult cases. You will provide wound exposure, hemostasis, suturing and instrument handling under the surgeon's direction, maintaining sterile technique and patient safety.

You must hold national certifications as a Surgical First Assistant and Surgical Technologist, with 10+ years in critical care settings; CPR certification is required.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of accredited Surgical Technology First Assist Program or equivalent.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Pediatric scrub tech experience preferred.
• Current national Certification as a Surgical First Assistant.
• Current national Certification as a Surgical Technologist and 10+ years of critical care/high acuity experience.
• CPR certified (American Heart Assoc.).

Responsibilities

• Assists the surgeon and team in operative procedures in the OR.
• Maintains confidentiality and adheres to hospital policies.
• Ensures sterile technique and instrument handling is performed safely.
• Positions, preps and drapes patients per procedure and surgeon preference.
• Transports instruments and assists with room setup and cleanup.
• Participates in unit process improvement and staff meetings.
• Maintains equipment, supplies and department cleanliness.
