Job summary

Vanderbilt Health in Tennessee seeks a Certified Surgical First Assistant to provide patient care in the operating room under the supervision of the circulating nurse. Requires knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, instruments, and may serve as a Surgical Technologist when not assisting.

Candidates must graduate from an approved program or complete surgical assistant training in the military, have at least 1 year of experience, and be registered with the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners;

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved discipline or completion of a surgical assistant training program.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience; CST experience preferred.
• Registration with the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners.
• Preferred certifications include NBSTSA CST, NCCT TS-C, NBSTSA CSFA/CSA/NCCSA/SA-C.

Responsibilities

• Certified Surgical Scrub Tech/First Assistant.
• Assist surgeon on procedures with hemodynamics, suturing, retracting.
• Assist OR staff as requested and adhere to infection control standards.
• May perform as a Surgical Technologist when not First Assisting.
