Job summary

CHRISTUS Health in Texas seeks a Surgical Assistant to support surgeons before, during, and after operations. You will help with exposure, hemostasis, closure, and intraoperative tasks while ensuring patient safety and compliance with hospital policies.

The position involves coordinating with the surgical team, preparing the patient, equipment, and supplies, and performing delegated duties under surgeon supervision. BLS certification is required, ACLS preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from an accredited Surgical First Assist Program or State Board accredited program.
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Assist the surgeon under direct and indirect supervision throughout preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures.
• Position the patient safely as directed by the surgeon and assist in preparing the patient and equipment.
• Perform tasks per surgeon preference including incision, exposure, hemostasis, tissue manipulation, and dressings.
• Assist in vein/graft harvesting or implant preparation as trained, under supervision.
• Carry out additional duties as delegated in accordance with policy and regulations.
