Job summary

UMass Memorial Health Marlborough is seeking a Surgical First Assistant to provide primary assistance to the surgeon during procedures. The role requires active participation during operations, assisting with exposure, hemostasis, tying or sewing, tissue handling, and other duties directed by the primary surgeon.

Qualifications include American Board of Surgical Assistant Certification, BLS and ACLS competency, graduation from an accredited Surgical Assistant Program, and at least 3 years in

• American Board of Surgical Assistant Certification.
• Documentation of ongoing clinical competencies and continuing education.
• BLS and ACLS competent.
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Assistant Program; successful completion of appropriate pretest/exam, classroom orientation, and clinical orientation.
• Well organized and possess a high degree of manual dexterity.
• 3 years' experience in a hospital-based surgical service.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer‑service, and communication skills, or an equivalent combination of the above.
